Girls Track and Field: SWR’s Lee first in 3,000

Shoreham-Wading River senior Katherine Lee raced to the Division III 3,000-meter title in the Division Championships Monday at Connetquot High School. Lee won in 10 minutes, 13.55 seconds. Her nearest challenger was Mount Sinai sophomore Sarah Connelly, who came in second in 10:14.69. Another Shoreham runner, junior Alexandra Smith, was seventh in 10:38.30.

In the 800 final, Shoreham sophomore Nicole Garcia was sixth in 2:27.52.

In Division I, Riverhead sophomore Christina Yakaboski took third in the 3,000 final in 10:33.25. She finished behind Bay Shore sophomore Roshni Singh (10:21.89) and Sachem East junior Lindsey Dodenhoff (10:27.68). Riverhead freshman Linda Pomiranceva was seventh in 10:56.82.

Three Riverhead pole vaulters finished tied for seventh place. Freshman Jordan Schule, junior Morgan Fritscher and sophomore Jenna Smith all cleared 8 feet.

Bishop McGann-Mercy senior Olivia Kneski qualified for Wednesday’s final in the 400. Her time of 1:01.31 was the second-fastest in Division III.

In the team rankings after the first day of the two-day meet, Longwood led Division I with 44 points. Riverhead was ninth with six.

In Division III, Mount Sinai led the pack with 45 points. Shoreham was fourth with 11.
