Avery E. Young

Avery Edwin Young of Aquebogue passed away on June 13. Avery was 86 years old, born in Riverhead and grew up on the family farm on Main Road in Aquebogue. He lived his entire life as a member of the  Aquebogue community.

Avery was a well-known potato farmer for almost 50 years, harvesting and packing up to 200 acres of potatoes out of Avery Young Farms in Aquebogue, N.Y.

He graduated from Riverhead High School in 1949 and received a B.S. from Cornell University’s School of Agriculture in 1953. He was a member and past president of the Jamesport Lions Club and Aquebogue Cemetery Association. Avery served on the Riverhead Board of Education, Cornell Cooperative Extension and the Long Island Cauliflower Association. He was a deacon and a lifetime member of Old Steeple Community Church in Aquebogue. 

Avery was predeceased by his sister Charlotte. He is survived by his wife, Fay; three sons, Allyn (Joann), Keith (Stacy) and Ian; and seven grandchildren: Tim, Andrew, Kyle, Amanda, Ashley, Avery and Jack Young; in addition to his sister Eleanor Jane.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or Old Steeple Community Church.

Arrangements were entrusted to Costner-Heppner Funeral Home in Cutchogue.
