Southampton Blotter: Riverhead woman scaled a fence to flee cops

Southampton Town Police arrested a Riverhead woman for resisting arrest Saturday.

A caller reported that Shanice Woodson, who was wanted for a separate burglary incident, was at a Riverleigh Avenue residence around 6 p.m. throwing rocks at a window, police said.

After canvassing the area, an officer observed a silver vehicle parked on the shoulder of Riverleigh Avenue, which sped up when police approached.

Police said Ms. Woodson turned around and pulled into Best Price Auto, where she then fled from her vehicle onto the rear of the property, scaled an eight-foot fence and climbed a tree.

She continued to flee, involving multiple officers in a brief foot pursuit before she was arrested.

She was charged with resisting arrest, a Class-A misdemeanor.

• A Flanders man was arrested for drunk driving in Riverside Saturday.

William Hynes, 20, was stopped near Vail Avenue on Flanders Road around 1:13 a.m. for a traffic infraction, police said.

After further investigation revealed he was intoxicated, Mr. Hynes was charged with misdemeanor DWI.

• A homeless man was arrested in Riverside last Thursday for drinking in public, a Southampton Town code violation.

A police report documenting the incident states that Olympio Colon, 48, was observed drinking a Natural Ice in the Valero parking lot around 1:41 a.m.

He was so intoxicated that had trouble standing and fell over, police said.

He was transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center by Flanders ambulance and issued a field appearance ticket.

• A 25-year-old Flanders man called Southampton Police last Wednesday to report damage to his vehicle.

According to a police report, the caller reported around 1:24 a.m. that an unknown person keyed his Nissan Altima, causing an estimated $1,000 in damage to the driver’s side door, trunk and passenger side.

An investigation is ongoing, police said.

• Southampton Town Police arrested a Riverhead woman for DWI in Flanders last Tuesday.

Around 3:38 a.m., Ellen Castro, 23, was observed driving at a high rate of speed on Flanders Boulevard, driving in the center lane to pass three cars before turning onto East Street, police said.

She was stopped and failed a pre-screen breath test, according to a police report.

Ms. Castro was arrested and taken to police headquarters for processing. She was charged with misdemeanor DWI.

• Southampton Police arrested a Riverhead man for driving without a valid license in Flanders last Wednesday.

Tony Orellana-Salguero, 22, was arrested near Flanders Boulevard at approximately 10:43 a.m. and charged with driving without insurance and third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, both misdemeanors.

Those who are named in police reports have not been convicted of any crime or violation. The charges against them may later be reduced or withdrawn, or they may be found innocent.
