The Riverhead Cardboard Boat Race returns to the Peconic River: photos

Hundreds  gathered Sunday in downtown Riverhead to watch paddlers compete against each other in the Riverhead Cardboard Boat Race on the Peconic Riverfront.

Due to the threat of rain the event was rescheduled from August 11.

The popular event was organized by the Riverhead Business Improvement District.

Jay Graves of Bellport won 4 Long Island Aquarium tickets for his sportsmanship during the Outlaw Races. When Slime of the Ancient Mariner sank, he took a piece of the boat and swam the course to finish the race.
Crew of Seaya Lata: Manned by Steve Sieckowski of Port Jefferson and Tim Austin of Stony Brook in Outlaw Races, placing 3rd overall. Manned by Jackson Paplin of Mt. Siani, Rina Choi of Commack, Nico Sieckowski of Port Jeff, Ben Sieckowski of Port Jeff, George Austin of Stony Book, coming in first in Youth Regatta Race 1.
