Calverton man arrested on weapon and drug charges in Sag Harbor

A 19-year-old Calverton man was arrested in Sag Harbor on felony weapon and drug charges Monday, according to police.

A Sag Harbor Village police officer on routine patrol observed a 1998 Nissan make an improper turn on Main Street around 10:10 p.m. The driver, Deandre M. Owens, was stopped and found to be in possession of a 9 mm handgun, which had the serial number removed, as well as more than two pounds of marijuana, police said.

Mr. Owens was charged with two felonies: third-degree criminal possession of a weapon and criminal possession of marijuana. He is also charged with misdemeanor fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon and multiple traffic violations.

He was arraigned Tuesday morning in Sag Harbor Village Justice Court and is being held at Suffolk County Jail in Riverhead on $10,000 cash bail, according to Sag Harbor police.

Mr. Owens’ passenger, Niekko Massicci, 20, of Calverton, was also arrested Monday on an active bench warrant out of Riverhead Town Justice Court. Mr. Massicci was processed at Sag Harbor Police Headquarters and turned over to Riverhead Town police.

Mr. Massicci had been arrested last December by Riverhead police for petit larceny at Toys “R” Us.
