Marian Bitzer

Marian C. Bitzer of Riverhead and formerly of Greenport died at the Acadia Center for Nursing & Rehabilitation Sept. 10, 2018.  She was 91 years old.

Marian was born March 31,1927, in New Suffolk to Jessie (Majewski) and William Gaffga. During her lifetime she enjoyed collecting angels and found great peace in attending church services. Some of her favorite pastimes included going on cruises, playing cards, playing bingo and an occasional trip to the casino. Above all else, she cherished spending time with her family, who meant everything to her and whom she loved dearly.

Predeceased by her husband Robert, son Joseph Gordon Sr. and brother William Gaffga Jr., she is survived by her children, Robert (Susan) Gordon of Bivalve, Md., Sharon (Jack) Rumpler of Southold and Marilee (Duncan) Fuss of Baiting Hollow; daughter-in-law Elizabeth Gordon of Southold; sister Theresa Boken; sixteen grandchildren; and twenty-one great-grandchildren.

The family will receive visitors Friday, Oct. 5, from 4 to 7 p.m. at DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Southold, where religious services will be conducted at 6 p.m., officiated by the Rev. Dr. Peter J. Kelley. Interment will take place Saturday, Oct. 6, at 9:30 a.m. at Calverton National Cemetery. The funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 8:45 a.m.
