David G. Carter

David G. Carter of East Moriches died at Westhampton Care Center Sept. 25, 2018, with family by his side. He was 93.

Born in Center Moriches Nov. 20, 1924, to Annie Belle (Lilly) and David Fallon Carter, Mr. Carter raised his family in Westhampton Beach. He was a veteran of World War II, where he served in the U.S. Navy as a radio operator in the Pacific aboard an LST. He had a career as a telecommunications engineer for RCA in Riverhead and Piscataway, N.J.

Mr. Carter was a ham radio operator with call number WB2HIU. He enjoyed gardening and traveling. He grew up on Moriches Bay, one of his favorite places for his entire life. He graduated from Center Moriches High School and attended college while in the Navy.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Patricia Ann (Johnson), his second wife, Shirley (Van Essendelf) and his brother, William Russell Carter. He is survived by his children, Linda (Michael) Prentiss of Ronkonkoma, Nancy (Albert) Johanson of Remsenburg, Gayle Wagner of Riverhead, and Craig (Suzanne) Carter of Speonk; his grandchildren, Heather Edwards, Lydia Prentiss, Elizabeth Wagner, Robert Wagner, Craig Carter and Cole Carter; and his great grandchildren, Paul Edwards and Matthew Elliott.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, Sept. 30, at Werner-Rothwell Funeral Home in Westhampon Beach. Interment will take place Monday, Oct. 1, at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Center Moriches.
