Harold Bartlett

Harold Bartlett of Riverhead died Jan. 4 at Peconic Bay Medical Center. He was 96.

He was born June 30, 1922, in Rocky Point, N.Y., to Mattie (Jenkins) and Charles Bartlett.

He graduated from Riverhead High School in 1940, served in the U.S. Army from 1946 to 1947 and married his wife, Mildred, in 1972. He worked as a receiving clerk at Brookhaven National Lab.

Mr. Bartlett was a member of Friendship Baptist Church and Club 96. He loved his family, watching sports, traveling and going to church.

Predeceased by his wife, he is survived by his children, Marshall Jones of Scotia, N.Y., Melvin Jones of Virginia and Harold Bartlett Jr. of Riverhead; four grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

Visitation will take place Thursday, Jan. 10, at 9:30 a.m. at Friendship Baptist Church, 59 Anchor St., Riverhead, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Calverton National Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to the United Negro College Fund. McLaughlin-Heppner Funeral Home in Riverhead assisted the family.
