Riverhead Town recognizes youth volunteers

The Town Board thanked the youth volunteers who helped make the 19th Annual Holiday Bonfire and Parade held in December a success.

Councilman Jim Wooten handed out recognitions and posed for photos with members of the Riverhead High School’s NJROTC program and the local Girl Scout troop at the Riverhead Town Board meeting Wednesday.

“It’s not about what we do for ourselves, it’s about what we do for others, and how we give back to the community,” Mr. Wooten said.

The annual festival draws hundreds to downtown Riverhead to celebrate the season. A parade of  local groups and organizations marches down Main Street, eventually ending on the Peconic River where a large bonfire lights up the sky.

Due to weather conditions Wednesday, not all volunteers were present to accept their awards, Mr Wooten said.
