James G. McCloskey

James G. McCloskey of Riverhead died May 11. He was 80.

He was born Dec. 22, 1938, to Alice McPherson and James McCloskey in Queens.

After graduating from high school, he became a New York City firefighter with Engine #316 in Queens.

Mr. McCloskey was the beloved husband of Elaine J. Kessler; the loving father of Kathleen (Michael) Mangia, Christine (John) Nolan, and Beth Ann (Scott) Whalen; and the adored grandfather of nine.

The family will receive visitors Wednesday, May 15, and Thursday, May 16, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Tuthill-Mangano Funeral Home in Riverhead. Closing prayers will take place Friday, May 17, at 8:30 a.m. at the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. John the Evangelist R.C. Church in Riverhead at 9:30 a.m. The funeral home assisted the family with a private cremation.
