Aubrey Mealy Jr.
Aubrey Mealy Jr. of Southold died Sunday, Dec. 22, 2019. He was 90 years old.
Aubrey was born in Goochland, Va., Feb. 2, 1929, to Aubrey and Rosa Mealy.
He is the oldest of seven brothers and sisters: Bernice Daniels (deceased), Cornelia Finney (deceased), Otha Mealy (deceased), Frank Mealy (deceased), Priscilla Mealy (deceased) and Wendell Mealy.
The family moved to Morristown, N.J., in 1942, and soon after relocated to Southold in 1947. He attended and graduated from Southold High School in 1949 and joined the Army in 1950 where he served until 1952 during the Korean Conflict. When he returned from serving his country, he joined the family business of Aubrey Mealy & Sons General Contractors that was started in 1952, which was later renamed Mealy Brothers General Contractors. The family business was disbanded in 1970 and is now known as North Fork Sanitation.
Aubrey, a few years later, started working with Building Material Teamsters Local 282 as a truck driver during the time the Suffolk County Jail was built. He retired after working for a number of years. During his retirement he enjoyed buying and selling scrap metal.
He was a long-time member of Unity Baptist Church in Mattituck.
Although he was very laid-back, there was not much that he missed. He had a great love for his family and would help anyone in need. He enjoyed traveling and staying abreast of the local and world news. One of his favorite and daily routines was to have a cup of coffee with a little milk, a slice of pound cake and he would read the newspaper and solve the daily crossword puzzles.
He leaves to celebrate his life his brother Wendell (Florida) Mealy; sister-in-law Eleanor Mealy; brother-in-law Lawrence Finney; nieces and nephews Sharon Daniels, Lorelie (Jodi), Wayne (Amelia), Melonie (David), Tanya (Jim), Kelli, Frank Jr., Kyle, Michael, Lawrence Jr. (deceased), Jonathan (Shireen), Monica (Ian), Kimberly, Brian, Eric (deceased), Wendy, Del, Michelle and Jason; and a host of great-nieces and great-nephews; and many beloved relatives and friends.
