Lenard ‘Sonny’ H. Henderson

Lenard “Sonny” H. Henderson of Riverhead died at Peconic Bay Medical Center Dec. 29, 2019. He was 79.He was born April 23, 1940, to Alma (Funn) and Landress Henderson in Greenport.

Mr. Henderson was employed as a driver for Henderson Taxi.

He was a member of Unity Baptist Church in Mattituck who enjoyed music. His family said he loved playing guitar in church and played in a band in his early years.

Mr. Henderson was predeceased by siblings Evelyn Logan, Lilian Montague and Landress Henderson Jr. He is survived by his children, Paulette Henderson of Virginia, Brenda Henderson of Riverhead and Serene Henderson of Mastic; siblings Jimmy, Alma Wells and Caulie Robinson, all of Riverhead; 15 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Visitors will be received Saturday, Jan. 4, at 10 a.m. at Unity Baptist Church in Mattituck where a service will take place at 11 a.m. Interment will take place at Riverhead Cemetery.

McLaughlin Heppner Funeral Home in Riverhead assisted the family.
