Schuyler VanKurin

Lifelong Riverhead resident Schuyler VanKurin died at home July 26, 2026, at the age of 69.

Born in Riverhead Oct. 21, 1956 he was the son of Stafka P. (Doroski) and Walter H. VanKurin. He was a graduate of Mercy High School in Riverhead and worked at McGann Mercy for more than 30 years.

Family said he was a member of the Sons of the American Legion and enjoyed collecting, music, playing drums, camping and the outdoors in general and the art of photography.

Predeceased by his sister Monica Sue Lessard; partner Jane Harbraugh and granddaughter Penelope Goodale, he is survived by his children Rachel Ellwood, Emily VanKurin, Hannah Goodale, Alexandra VanKurin; grandchildren Layla VanKurin, Natalie VanKurin, Charleigh Ellwood and Cecilia Goodale; and siblings Stephanie Scionti and Charlene VanCrump.

The family will receive visitors Wednesday, July 29 from 4 to 7 p.m. at McLaughlin Heppner Funeral Home in Riverhead. A funeral service is scheduled for 11 a.m., Thursday, July 30 at St. Isidore R.C. Church in Riverhead.
