Laura Goodale Grathwohl-DeCastro

Laura Goodale Grathwohl-DeCastro of Cutchogue, and lifelong North Fork resident, passed away on Monday, Aug. 10, 2026. She was 86 years old.

Laura was born on Sept. 6, 1939, at Eastern Long Island Hospital in Greenport to Helen L. (née Smith) and David E. Corwin. She was one of two children. After graduating from Greenport High School, she attended two years of college, and then, starting in 1959, four years of nursing school at The Brooklyn Hospital School of Nursing. In her professional career, Laura worked as a Registered Nurse for Eastern Long Island Hospital for 40 years. She was an alcohol and drug counselor. She was also a member of the North Fork United Methodist Church.

Predeceased by her first husband Edward E. Grathwohl in 1969; second husband Pete DeCastro in 2015; and brother David S. Corwin; Laura is survived by her children Laura Grathwohl Austin of Turner, Maine, Ned Grathwohl of Mattituck, Glen Grathwohl of Cutchogue and Jim DeCastro of Florida; grandchildren Mark Austin (Carrie), Michael Austin (Jenna), David Austin (Abby), Skyler Grathwohl (Harrison), Macie Grathwohl, Bryce Grathwohl and Garrett Grathwohl; and great-grandchildren Jace, Amelia, Harper and Oliver.

The family has chosen to remember Laura’s life privately at this time.
