Eric Louis Bentsen

Eric Louis Bentsen, proud Navy veteran and longtime resident of Flanders passed away Oct. 20, 2026 at the age of 82.

Eric was born and raised in Northern Manhattan to Ole and Lilly Bentsen. His formative years were spent breathing life into his neighborhood and seeking out adventure, always with a story to tell. He spent summers on Long Island, swimming, fishing, enjoying east end life with his family especially with his older sister Barbara whom he admired greatly.

Eric was known for his charming humor, wit, and love of a good cigar. He proudly served his nation during Vietnam and ended his professional career proudly serving the residents of Southampton Town as a senior services driver for twenty years.

Eric enjoyed fishing. He loved driving the beach with his truck and casting in the dawn waves. Eric Bentsen lived a quiet life, but was a hero to those who mattered most. A family man through and through he dedicated his final years to spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, always with a fistful of Dum Dums.

Eric is survived by his four children: Eric Bentsen of Dutchess County, N.Y., Patrick Bentsen and Andrew Bentsen of Riverhead, Erika Henry of North Las Vegas, Nev., their spouses along with eight grandchildren. Eric is predeceased by his parents, his sister Barbara Bauerline, and his wife of over 40 years, Elizabeth Bentsen.

The family will receive visitors Monday, Oct. 26, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Robertaccio Funeral Home in Center Moriches. The funeral service is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 27, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Calverton National Cemetery.
