Recap: Town hires cops, settles police contract and Dunleavy eyes supe seat
Riverhead News-Review reporter Tim Gannon reported live from today’s 2 p.m. Town Board meeting, which ended at about 4 p.m.
During a break in the action, second-term Councilman John Dunleavy said he would be seeking the Republican nomination to run for supervisor, should Supervisor Sean Walter win a special election for county Legislature in January. (See more in this week’s paper.)
As for official business, the board decided to hold off on voting on whether to settle a lawsuit with Calverton Manor, LLC. A proposed settlement would allow for a mixed-use commercial and residential project on Manor Road.
The Town Board voted to let Sky Dive Long Island to sub-lease some 50 acres of town land in Calverton to store storm-damaged cars, trucks and SUVs. It also adopted a new police contract.
Five new police officers were then hired under that contract.
The town also hired three part-time kennel attendants to the town’s dog shelter — among other items.
