A press conference was recently held at Wading River Fire District headquarters, during which state Sen. Ken LaValle announced that due to the diligence and hard work of the present fire commissioner, Mike Harrigan, the district has been awarded a $200,000 grant toward upgrading its communication systems.
Wading River Historical Society will hold its annual Holiday Tea and Antiques Appraisal on Friday, Dec. 4, at 7 p.m. in the auditorium at Wading River Congregational Church.

North Shore United Methodist Church on Route 25A in Wading River has some news to share. The church has welcomed a new pastor to guide their congregation, the Rev. Hal Low. Welcome! Also, the church’s thrift shop has a new and improved sign that now displays its hours of operation. According to NSUMC’s recently updated website (northshoreumc.org): “The old sandwich board has served its purpose and has now been retired with honor.”
Linda Winter, of Bagel Lady Cafe, hosts an annual “Get Your Pink On Gala” to support the Long Island 2 Day Walk to Fight Breast Cancer. Her most recent event at Shoreham Country Club was not only tremendous fun, it raised $17,800. You can still help Linda reach her goal for 2015 ($18,000) by making a contribution to the large jar by the cash register at Sassy Salads & Bagels in the Shoreham Plaza on Route 25A or by handing her a check. Shoreham resident Marcia Slatkin invites all to a poetry/prose reading, which she will share with Celine Keating, a novelist who’s about to publish her second book. The event will be held Sunday, May 31, at 5 p.m. at the Tivoli Artists Gallery, 60 Broadway, in New York City.
