Riverhead Town Justice Allen Smith will be an “honored guest” at the Suffolk County Bar Association’s Judiciary Night Wednesday at 6 p.m. at Watermill Caterers in Smithtown.

Things will be getting pretty Irish in the Town of Riverhead from late February into March, as the East End Emerald Society gears up for its second annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Jamesport on March 28, which is expected to be bigger than last year’s inaugural parade.
In addition to the parade, the East End Emerald Society also is planning a reception on Saturday, Feb. 21 to formally introduce its grand marshal for the parade, Riverhead Town Justice Allen Smith. (more…)

Riverhead Town’s Justice Court isn’t as safe as it should be, elected town officials say.
They maintain that the hallways in the Howell Avenue building — which also serves as police department headquarters — aren’t wide enough and that the courtroom is too close to the building’s entrance.
“It’s very tight up there,” said Police Chief David Hegermiller. “It’s very confined quarters. It’s very makeshift.” (more…)
