After nearly a year in the making, Southampton Town officially has a plan in place to revitalize Riverside — the area’s most economically-stressed and blighted neighborhood.

A private developer hired more than a year ago to help revitalize a section of Riverside has roughly a month left to deliver a final “action plan” to Southampton Town.
And while many of that plan’s details remain to be seen, the company announced Monday that it hopes help to spur development on many of the area’s blighted parcels through a simple exchange: more uses will be allowed on-site in exchange for more jobs for locals. (more…)

Growing up in the 1980s and’90s in a racially divided part of Los Angeles, where drugs and gangs were prevalent, Siris Barrios remembers well the days of the 1992 L.A. riots and the civil unrest she saw.

And the winner is… “Riverside Rediscovered.”
That’s the name attendees at Monday’s Flanders, Riverside and Northampton Community Association chose for the upcoming effort to revitalize Riverside, which has long been one of the more impoverished and crime-ridden hamlets in the county. (more…)

The Suffolk County Executive was given a bus tour of one of Southampton Town’s poorest, most crime-ridden, rundown neighborhoods Wednesday morning in hopes of getting his support for a number of ongoing efforts to revitalize the area. (more…)
