Riverside Rediscovered and Renaissance Downtowns are perhaps best known locally as Southampton Town’s “master developers” for Riverside, an area that has long been known for blight, crime and the inability to attract new businesses due to environmental constraints.
When Paola Zuniga-Tellez moved from Brooklyn to the East End in 2005, she noticed a lack of information and representation for the Latino community as a whole — a sad experience, she said.
Now, Ms. Zuniga-Tellez, who was born in Mexico and came to the United States as a teenager, hopes to close that gap as a member of the Flanders, Riverside and Northampton Community Association’s board of directors — the first Latina elected to the group’s board in its 18-year history.
Paola Zuniga-Tellez had already spent more than half her life in America by the time she moved from Brooklyn to the East End, resettling in Flanders with her husband, Jose. A native of Mexico, she had the advantage of being bilingual, yet still felt like an outsider in her new home. READ
