Riverhead News: Another round of happy birthdays

The Riverhead Key Club has you covered. This group of high school students is currently having a fundraiser at which you can design and hand paint umbrellas.

The cost is $20 and up. All monies raised go to the club to help offset expenses incurred on their trip to upstate New York, where they attend a weekend conference and participate in other activities during the year. Coming soon will be the club’s “mock homeless” fundraiser. Proceeds from this event will go to Maureen’s Haven. Members of the Key Club are very busy throughout the year serving their community. If you’d like to support the fundraiser or have questions, call Louise Wilkinson at 463-5810.

Riverhead Care Center’s activities department is in need of DVDs and games such as checkers and chess. You can drop them off at 1146 Woodcrest Ave. or call Sharon Blumstein, president of the family council, at 631-806-8593.

Commander Mike Pankowski from American Legion Post 273 welcomes the community to its 21st annual pig roast on Saturday, Sept. 12, from 4 to 7 p.m. at 89 Hubbard Ave. Tickets are $35 and include roasted pig, pork, spare ribs, corn on the cob, baked potato, salads, desserts, tap beer, water and soda. There will be raffles and a 50/50 drawing. The Mike Ryan and Friends Band will provide entertainment. Tickets can be purchased at the post or by calling 727-4330.

The Long Island Sound Chorus, a chapter of Sweet Adelines International, presents “In My Life” on Sunday, Sept. 27, at 3 p.m. at the Suffolk Theater. Tickets are now on sale. Call 727-4343 or order online at suffolktheater.com.
