Calverton news: ‘Wines and Canines’ walk/run in Baiting Hollow

I’m beginning my column this week with some sad news. My mom, Kay Troyan, passed away Sept. 10. It was a very sad time, but Mom is where she needs to be. She is pain-free and I’m sure she’s having a great time up there with those who went before her. I want to thank everyone who not only came to the wake and funeral, but simply picked up the phone and shared a few minutes of their time with me. It’s very much appreciated. Also, a big thank-you goes out to Matt from Tuthill-Mangano Funeral Home in Riverhead. You are, without a doubt, a wonderful, kind and caring man. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Kent Animal Shelter’s annual “Wines and Canines” walk/run will be held Sunday, Sept. 25, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Baiting Hollow Farm Vineyard. There will be a pet costume contest, a people/pet look-alike contest, a 50/50 raffle, live music and more. Cost is $30. All proceeds will help animals in crisis. For more information, call Kent at 631-727-5731. They will be more than happy to help you.

Riverhead Raceway wrapped up its Championship Night Saturday with lots of exciting races. Congratulations to Jeremy McDermott on winning the Late Models championship; Kyle Soper, who won the Modifieds (30-Lap #2); and Dylan Slepian, who won a 25-lap main event. Great job! There’s only one more week of racing left. Go!

Belated happy birthday to Dina Riley and Jude Grodski Losee, who celebrated Sept. 18, and to Dr. Bach, who we love dearly, Sept. 20. We hope you had a great day.

Happy birthday to Bonnie Campbell Vasslo Sept. 27. Have a great day!

Happy 64th wedding anniversary to Miriam and Charles Niegocki, who celebrated Aug. 31, with lots of love from your daughter, Joan, me, all your family and friends and Mimi. We hope you both had a great day.

Happy fall! I hope it brings colorful leaves, nippy nights and all the good stuff autumn has to offer.

Till next time, be safe and I shall talk to you soon. Take care. Bye.
