Cops: Pedestrian in critical condition after being struck by car on Route 58

A pedestrian suffered serious head injuries Friday night after she was hit by a car on Route 58 in Riverhead, according to a police press release.

Shanon Didavide, 29, of Calverton attempted to cross the street near Mill Road shortly after 11 p.m. when a 2007 Nissan driven by Amanda Riggs, 25, of Ridge hit her in the westbound lane, Riverhead Town police said.

Ms. Didavide was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital by Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps and was listed in critical condition as of Saturday afternoon, police said.

No charges have been filed, police said.

The investigation is ongoing and witnesses are asked to contact the police department at 631-727-4500.

On Sunday, a pedestrian was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital after being struck by a vehicle on Route 58 near the DMV shopping plaza . That victim was listed in fair condition Tuesday.
