Feds assess flood damages on Horton, Osborn avenues

Federal authorities descended on Horton Avenue in Riverhead Monday to assess the damage of last week’s flood that inundated over a dozen homes and forced the evacuation of area residents.
Barbara Lynch, a spokesperson for Federal Emergency Management Agency, said New York State will be compiling a report on the destruction, with Governor David Paterson then deciding on whether or not to ask the federal government for assistance. In the meantime, Ms. Lynch urged residents to investigate whether their insurance will cover some damages
