Calverton accident closes Route 25 Monday

A single-car accident snarled traffic on Route 25 in Calverton Monday afternoon, authorities said.

Riverhead Town Police said a motorist had slammed into a utility pole on Route 25 east of Edwards Avenue about 3:45 p.m.  No serious injuries were reported, though there were live wires down, police said.

Route 25 from Edwards Avenue to Manor Road was closed during the accident investigation. The road had reopened as of 5:15 p.m.

The crash was the second time an accident in that location shut down the road in two days. On Sunday, three people were airlifted following a two-car head-on collision.
