Peconic River cleanup set for this Friday morning

Several community groups have banded together to host a Peconic River cleanup in downtown Riverhead beginning at 9 a.m. Friday.

Canoes will be on loan from Peconic Paddler and the Long Island Aquarium Atlantis Marine World to get the volunteers out on the water to pick up litter.

The event is a joint venture of Riverhead BID, the town’s anti-litter committee, the run/swim/bike group ‘Event Power,’ the Long Island Aquarium and the Riverhead Foundation.

“We plan to make this happen a few times throughout the year,” said BID president Ray Pickersgill.
