Riverhead News: Tesla center president wins community service award

Congratulations to Jane Alcorn, who received the Suffolk Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution 2015 Community Service Award, presented in October by chairwoman Caroline Stepnoski at the Suffolk County Fair.

Jane is creative, enthusiastic and organized. She also shares a love for her community and education. Jane was founder, editor and publisher of the Sound Observer, a local newspaper; appointed by the Suffolk County Legislature to the Brookhaven Lab advisory committee; a 25-year member of the Wading River Historical Society; and is president of the Tesla Science Center at Wardenclyffe. Through Jane’s efforts, funds were raised to purchase the 16-acre parcel, the former site of inventor Nikola Telsa’s laboratory. Jane has given generously of her time and talents for her community. Congratulations!

Riverhead Free Library was closed on Veterans Day. However, a brief ceremony was planned for Nov. 10 to raise the flag it received from Congressman Lee Zeldin that flew over the Capitol building in recognition of Veterans Day.
