Homeless man in Riverhead charged in multiple Calverton larcenies

A homeless man in Riverhead was arrested over the weekend and charged with multiple felonies after an alleged string of vehicle and garage thefts, according to the Riverhead Police Department.

Tyree Dawson, 34, faces burglary, grand larceny and criminal mischief charges after he reportedly stole from multiple vehicles and property near Deep Hole Road in Calverton early Saturday morning, according to a police media release.

Officers responded to an initial report of damage to a vehicle where items were apparently removed. A short time after this report, multiple residents of the nearby North Woods Road alerted law enforcement to larcenies from their vehicles. One resident reported property theft from an open garage.

After notification, the Riverhead Detective Division conducted an investigation and identified Mr. Dawnson as a suspect. A Riverhead Police K9 unit assisted in the investigation and located numerous items believed to be proceeds, police said.

Mr. Dawson was transported to Riverhead police headquarters, where he was processed and held for a morning arraignment.
