Veteran Riverhead officers receive rousing sendoff at headquarters
There weren’t many dry eyes at Riverhead Town Police Headquarters Tuesday afternoon as three officers marked the end of lengthy careers with one final walk down the front steps and one final sign-off over the radio.
Peter Troyan, who served 35 years with the department, shared the honors with Raymond Brogan, a 29-year officer, and Eric Lipinsky, who served 19 years.
“This is a great department, a great group of people,” Mr. Troyan said. “It’s satisfying for me. It’s emotional for me, but I made a lot of good friends — to walk out is just unbelievable. I’m really proud of everybody, and I’m looking forward to spending more time with the family.”
Mr. Troyan’s wife, Virginia, posted a photo tribute to her husband on Facebook ahead of the ceremony.
“These pictures take me back to the beginning, a 22-year-old starting his career, who became full time at 23, then at 24, he met me,” Ms. Troyan wrote. “For as long as I’ve known Pete, he has been a cop. I’ve watched him grow from that young officer just starting out into the man, husband, and police officer he is today. Thirty-five years of early mornings, late nights, holidays, missed family moments, difficult calls, countless people helped and numerous lives saved.”
