Warrior Ranch marks 10 years of service with Calverton benefit
Warrior Ranch Foundation marked its 10th anniversary Sunday with a benefit in Calverton honoring supporters and celebrating its work with veterans, first responders and rescued horses.
The “A Decade of Donors” event honored the late Allan Curran, a longtime supporter of the foundation. His stepson, Bob Cutler, accepted the Warrior Ranch Foundation Winners Circle Outstanding Supporter Award in his memory.
Foundation president Eileen Shanahan also recognized Assemblywoman Jodi Giglio, Suffolk County Legislators Nicholas Caracappa and Steven Flotteron, Marcelle Leis of the Suffolk County Veterans Service Agency and Legislator Chad Lennon for their roles in helping establish the ranch at the former Long Island Beagle Club property.
The benefit included an arena presentation featuring the horses at the center of the ranch’s programs. Gina Lamb of Iron Horse Fields rode Chocky, while equine program coaches Josephine Smith and Juliette Hackett presented River and Sully.
Warrior Ranch began in Ms. Shanahan’s backyard and has grown into a Calverton nonprofit with two full-time staff members and volunteers, according to the organization. It says it has served more than 600 veterans and first responders, rescued six horses and placed four of those horses in permanent homes.
The foundation rescues horses and offers programs intended to help veterans and first responders find connection, purpose and support through working with them.
