Long Island Express bus launches Riverhead-Hicksville service

East End commuters have a new express bus option to reach Hicksville during weekday rush hours.

Suffolk County Executive Ed Romaine announced Monday the launch of the Long Island Express, a Suffolk County Transit service that began operating from Riverhead on Oct. 26.

“Suffolk County has the most lane miles and most registered drivers out of any county in New York, and we must do all we can to make our roads safer and alleviate congestion all while providing sensible and affordable alternative transit options to our residents,” Mr. Romaine said. “With the Long Island Express, motorists now have another sensible option to commute from the East End to the west in a simple and convenient manner.”

The Long Island Express departs from the Riverhead Long Island Rail Road station during morning rush hours, making limited stops while using the Long Island Expressway’s HOV lane before reaching the Hicksville LIRR station. Afternoon eastbound trips depart from Hicksville and end in Riverhead to accommodate commuters traveling home.

Fares are $2.25 per trip, the standard full fare for Suffolk County Transit. Bus and LIRR fares must be paid separately, with no combined transfer fare between the two services. The Long Island Express does not operate on weekends or holidays.

Passengers can also pay their fares without cash using Suffolk County Transit’s FastFare mobile ticketing app.

Stops along the route include Farmingville’s Exit 63 park-and-ride, Medford, Ronkonkoma LIRR station, Islandia, Hauppauge, the Route 110 park-and-ride and Broadway Mall.  Schedules and a full stop list are available on Suffolk County Transit’s website.
