Riverhead Farmers Market Finds a New Home in Naugles barn
After years of moving between temporary locations, the Riverhead Farmers Market is preparing to settle into a new winter home: the renovated Naugles barn at Hallockville Museum Farm (6038 Sound Avenue, Riverhead, 631-298-5292).
The market, now an independent nonprofit organization, will run Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Nov. 7 through April 24 (and a special Sunday market on Dec. 6). Its relationship with Hallockville grew from a shared interest in supporting local agriculture and strengthening community ties, said market manager Rachel Stephens, farmer and owner of Sweet Woodland Farm in Southold.
“It’s a natural partnership, “says Marianne Della Croce, the new executive director of Hallockville Museum Farm. “I feel like it helps us tell the story of modern-day farming in the area — and why wouldn’t we want to partner with another local nonprofit? It’s all around beneficial for everybody.”
