The Riverhead High School Blue Masques will present the musical ‘In the Heights’ Friday to Sunday, April 5 to 7, in the school’s Charles Cardona Auditorium, 700 Harrison Ave., Riverhead. Show times are 7 p.m. Friday; 2 and 7 p.m. Saturday; and 2 p.m. Sunday.
The musical, directed by Dena Tishim and featuring a cast and crew of 50 students, is set in New York’s Washington Heights neighborhood. Its book and lyrics are by Lin-Manuel Miranda, who went on to create the blockbuster Broadway production of “Hamilton.” (more…)

The beginning of Colin Palmer’s play “True Stories” takes the audience on a journey back four centuries to when Native Americans lived in Riverhead before European settlers. Over the next 45 minutes, he recounts numerous historical events in the town’s history, including his own family’s, which dates back 200 years in Riverhead, he said. READ

There were just five minutes to go before the Blue Masques’ final performance of “Bye Bye Birdie” when a fire alarm sounded around 2 p.m., forcing the building’s nearly 100 occupants outdoors. READ
A fire that broke out at a Riverhead High School portable classroom Sunday afternoon appears to have been caused by a mechanical failure in the unit’s heating unit, according to a Riverhead fire marshal.
“It’s definitely not a suspicious fire,” said fire marshal David Andruskiewicz, who is investigating the fire.
