Basketball legend Charles Barkley was seen around downtown Riverhead this weekend.

The NBA Hall of Famer posed for a picture with Riverhead High School cheerleaders and even belted out Frank Sinatra’s “My Way” during Karaoke night at the Jerry and the Mermaid bar and restaurant next to the Hyatt Place East End. He was also reportedly watching football at Digger O’Dells restaurant and bar on West Main Street Sunday while staying at the newly built Hyatt, next to the aquarium.

Those who came in contact with Sir Charles said he was all-class.

“Charles couldn’t have been more gracious and nice, he took every picture, signed every autograph and shook every hand,” said Doug Wald of Riverhead. “He was quite cool and a lot of fun.”

Mr. Barkley is in town for a charity golf tournament Monday hosted by fellow NBA great Bill Russell.
