Former Sears building in Riverhead demolished

Unknown

Apparently, it’s knocking down old buildings week in the Town of Riverhead.

A few days after the former Court House restaurant was razed, demolition of the former Sears building on East Main Street began Thursday.

The building is owned by Riverhead Enterprises, which also received a demolition permit for the three buildings it owns immediately east of the Sears building.

At an April 25 hearing before the town Landmarks Preservation Commission, Riverhead Enterprises principals Sheldon Gordon and David Silverman said they don’t know what will be built there after the demolition is complete.

“Whatever we do, it will be nice,” said Mr. Silverman at that meeting. “We don’t want to keep it as just land…We don’t know what we’re going to do now. It depends on who buys that property.”
