Firefighters battle brush fire near train tracks in Riverhead

More than 12,000 gallons of water was used to extinguish a brush fire Wednesday afternoon near the train tracks off Mill Road in Riverhead, authorities at the scene said.

The fire was reported around 3 p.m. and was brought under control with an hour, Riverhead Fire Department Chief Kevin Brooks said.

The Flanders Fire Department and Riverhead police also responded to the scene. No injuries were reported.

The Riverhead Town Fire Marshal is investigating the incident, Chief Brooks said.

No other details about the incident were immediately available.
