Jeep destroyed by fire in Riverside Monday afternoon
A white Jeep was destroyed by fire Monday afternoon in Riverside, according to the Riverhead Fire Department.
Firefighters arrived at the scene on Nugent Drive, west of Center Drive, at about 3:30 p.m. to find the Jeep fully engulfed in flames.
Riverhead Chief Peter Jackman said a gas tank ruptured and firefighters were quickly able to knock down the flames. The chief said no one was in the vehicle when firefighters arrived on scene. He was unsure how many people had been in the Jeep before the fire started. No injuries were reported.
He said the Southampton Town fire marshal was on scene investigating the cause of the fire.
Further details were not immediately available.
