Happy summer 2015, everyone! I hope this summer doesn’t fly by as quickly as last summer. Then again, last summer I was planning a graduation party and getting ready to bring my daughter to college, so of course it went quickly for me. This summer should be a little calmer. After moving twice in the last month, picking up Kate from college for summer break and then arranging to have a surgical procedure this month, let’s just say I can really use a non-stressful summer.  (more…)

June is sneaking up very quickly and pretty soon there will be graduations, moving-up ceremonies and fun-in-the-sun festivities — fairs, carnivals, picnics, etc. I love summertime, especially on Long Island. I think most feel the same way. One thing we don’t love, however, is the increase in traffic. I can’t imagine how busy our roads are going to be when school is let out. (more…)

I hope everyone enjoyed their Mother’s Day. If you’re fortunate to still have your mom in your life make sure to appreciate her every day. I really miss my mom but take comfort in knowing she celebrated with her mother in Heaven. I spent the day with one of my “other” mothers, Marsha Mickoliger, and my BFF, Michele. I’ve known the Mickoligers since I was 4 and, although I don’t have a sister of my own, I have four great women in my life that I consider my sisters. (more…)

Welcome, May and, hopefully, more seasonal weather. I want to do yard work and sit outside and drink my tea in the morning. I’d like to ask Mother Nature to turn up the heat a little. I’m not the only one. Everyone I run into says the same thing: “Where is spring?”  (more…)

If you heard a happy yell Sunday afternoon, that was me. It finally reached 60 degrees. For a minute it seemed like this winter wasn’t ever going to end. Now May is coming, and sometime during the second week I’ll make the trip to Oneonta one last time until August. I don’t mind it really — it’s nice to spend some alone time with my baby girl and catch up. (more…)

Happy Easter and Passover to all the friends and neighbors who are reading this column. I hope whatever you celebrate you celebrate with love, family and friends. It’s April so I’m hoping that it’s going to start getting a little bit warmer. This winter has been rough. When I woke up to snow Saturday and then it kept snowing all day, I have to admit, it kind of bummed me out. I was so glad to see blue sky and sunshine on Sunday, even if it was only 40 degrees. Let’s all keep our fingers crossed that was the last, at least until next December. (more…)

Hello, friends and neighbors. Welcome to spring. Finally! I’m so excited to be over that February madness. It was just too cold and snowy this year. I don’t think I’d mind it around Christmas because it’s supposed to snow then — at least that’s what all the songs and movies say. Anyway, it’s time to dust off the body and get out and move. Just make sure you wear bright reflective clothing if you’re going to walk or run on our area roads. It’s very hard to see people who are wearing dark-colored clothing.  (more…)
