Hello, friends and neighbors. Welcome to fall. It got cold, didn’t it? Speaking of the cold, my daughter downloaded an app that counts the days till Christmas. I don’t want to think about Christmas yet. I want to get through Halloween, Thanksgiving and Kaitlyn’s college finals first. I can’t believe her first semester is almost over. She is doing so well and enjoying her college experience. Thank you to everyone who asks about her.  (more…)

October is upon us, friends and neighbors. Time to put those flip-flops away. This time of year, although beautiful, always makes me very sad. Most of you know how I feel about the cold, wind and snow; I can’t stand it. I’ll admit, a good snowstorm that doesn’t cause a power outage is always nice around the holidays, but the many months of dealing with snow, ice and whipping wind — yuck!  (more…)

Labor Day is this weekend, college is back in session and classes at local schools begin next week. The summer went by extremely fast. It probably seemed a lot faster  to me, since my baby girl left for her freshman year at SUNY/Oneonta last weekend. I’m so proud of her. I brag about her all the time, but my heart aches not having her here. I know it’s selfish and I know she’s where she’s supposed to be — yes, Dave McKillop, I know and totally agree — but I miss her terribly and can’t wait for her first visit home. I wish everyone a great academic year.  (more…)

What a whirlwind weekend we had. My daughter graduated from Riverhead High School on Saturday and we held a party for her that evening. Thanks to everyone who helped out, especially my brothers, Frank, Danny and Mike, and my sister-in-law Kim. Thanks also to those who brought a dish and everyone who attended, and thanks to God for the perfect weather. Congratulations to the Class of 2014. Best wishes for a prosperous future!  (more…)

What a gorgeous weekend we had, friends and neighbors. I hope you all had fun doing whatever it was that made you happy. Hopefully you spent the time outdoors. We mowed the lawn and washed the car and went for a ride to Greenport. It was a nice weekend. I can’t believe Memorial Day is this weekend. Where did the time go? I was rushing winter but now that it’s finally spring-like I’d like for time to slow down now.  (more…)

Welcome to May, friends and neighbors. It took a while but I think winter is finally over. Mother’s Day is this weekend, after which the rule of thumb is you can plant flowers and vegetables. I’m hoping those really chilly mornings and evenings are finished until at least September. I wanted to shut my heat down completely but had to turn it on again a few times. I can’t wait for summer to get here. (more…)

Hello, everyone! I hope you had a great couple of weeks. We’ve had some nice weather thrown in but this really has been the winter that just won’t quit. I’m looking forward to spending my mornings reading a book and drinking my tea on the deck but it’s still just a little too cold for that. Cross your fingers that these 20- to 30-degree morning temperatures end soon because I’m just about done with being cold.  (more…)

Happy spring, friends and neighbors. Yes it’s officially spring but it sure doesn’t feel like it. We get a couple of days of gorgeous weather then we get a forecast for more snow, which was forecasted for this week. I’m tired of being cold. (more…)
