Today in sports: Draw would clinch playoff berth for SWR boys

The Shoreham-Wading River boys soccer team finds itself in a virtual must-win situation today as its chances of securing the Suffolk County League VI title dwindle.

The fourth-place Wildcats (7-4-2, 5-3-1) haven’t done themselves any favors by splitting their last six games. They now sit behind East Hampton (10-1-1, 7-1-1), Elwood/John Glenn (7-5, 7-2) and Westhampton Beach (8-3-1, 5-2-1) with only three regular-season games remaining on their schedule. On the plus side, a draw today against Amityville (4-9, 2-7) would assure Shoreham of a playoff berth.

Amityville, which has lost its last two games and four of its past five, dropped a 1-0 decision to Shoreham on Oct. 3. It was Toni Domingues’ 67th-minute goal that made the difference that day as Joe Cahill posted a five-save shutout.

Shoreham is coming off a 4-1 defeat of Bayport-Blue Point on Monday. Kevin Turano and Domingues scored two goals each, according to Newsday.com.

Today’s game at Shoreham-Wading River High School will start at 4:30 p.m.
