The former Boulder Creek restaurant in Riverhead Centre will be filled by Joe’s Crab Shack, which has now filed a site plan application with Riverhead Town.

Boulder Creek closed its Riverhead Centre location in October 2011 and all of its appliances, decor and utensils were auctioned off in a liquidation sale.

The Route 58 shopping center had lost of its larger tenants, Borders Books, shortly before that.

The Borders Books site is now being reopened as a DSW (Designer Shoe Warehouse) and work on the new store has been underway for several weeks now.

Joe’s Crab Shack has 127 locations nationwide. The seafood chain is owned by Houston-based Ignite Restaurant Group and was founded in 1991.

Representations of Joe’s Crab Shack had met with town planners last year to discuss the Boulder Creek site.

The group filed a site plan recently for a facade alteration to the Boulder Creek building.
