After countless hours of helping strangers, the Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps is coming to the rescue of one of their own.

Members will attend a fundraiser dinner tonight at the Middle Island Fire Department to help support Ira Marguiles, a member of the Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corporation who was diagnosed with Stage 4 liver cancer and is unable to work.

Mr. Marguiles is also an Advanced Life Support provider for the Rocky Point and Middle Island Fire Departments, and is a retired NYC corrections officer. His aggressive treatments leave him unable to support his wife and young children, a flyer for the dinner reads.

All funds collected Saturday night will be put toward paying for Mr. Marguiles’ medical and household expenses.

The fundraiser spaghetti dinner will be held at 31 Arnold Drive and will also feature a Chinese auction and 50/50 raffle. The event will include three seatings at 4, 5:30, and 7 p.m.

Tickets are available for $10.
