Riverhead News: ‘Hidden Talents’ art show at Riverhead Free Library

Meghan Carver, an 11-year-old Riverhead resident, recently participated in the equestrian show at Salt River Farms. She was awarded champion of her division, winning two first places and two second places. Congratulations, Meghan, with lots of love from your grandmother Terry and grandfather Harry Carver. Your family is truly proud of your accomplishment. 

The first senior art show, “Hidden Talents,” will be held at Riverhead Free Library Nov. 5-30. It will feature art by local seniors who reside at Riverhead Care Center, Peconic Bay Medical Center’s Skilled Nursing Facility and Westhampton Care Center. The event is being sponsored by the Friends of the Library and the senior outreach services department.

Visit RFL to view indie films on a computer Saturday, Nov. 15, at 1 p.m. in the library’s Internet teaching lab. If you have a headset, bring it. Seating is limited. Register in person, online at riverheadlibrary.org or call 727-3228, ext. 0.

Living Water Church, 24 Shade Tree Lane in Riverhead, will screen the movie “God’s Not Dead” Sunday, Nov. 9, at 6 p.m. All are welcome to this free event. For more information, call 722-4969 or visit lwfgc.org.

The Combined Veterans of Riverhead will hold a ceremony on Veterans Day, Tuesday, Nov. 11, at 11 a.m. at the World War I Monument (across the street from the library). Afterward, refreshments will be served at Riverhead American Legion Post 273 on Hubbard Avenue. Commander Mike Pankowski welcomes the Riverhead community to this event.

The Riverhead Veterans Advisory Committee will host a Veterans Resource Day Saturday, Nov. 15, from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the library. Representatives from Northport VA, Suffolk County VA, Riverhead American Legion and Riverhead VFW, along with other groups, will be available to answer any questions. Family Day at Riverhead Care Center was celebrated recently, with Caribbean music by the Next Level Steel Band. The event included grass skirts, food, a petting zoo and pony rides. The residents were in awe when Riverhead aquarium employees visited with a touch tank filled with starfish, clams, oysters and other sea creatures. Fun was had by all!
