Cops: Teen discovered with burns following shed fire in Riverhead

A 14-year-old girl suffered burns to her feet after a shed caught fire Friday morning on Fairway Avenue in Riverhead, according to a police press release.

Authorities responded to the scene around 4:20 a.m. and found a shed located in the backyard engulfed in flames, police said.

The Riverhead Fire Department extinguished the fire and the victim was taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center for treatment, officials said.

The Riverhead Detective Division and Suffolk County Arson Squad are investigating the cause of the fire, which officials said appears to be accidental at this time.
