Cops: Two commercial burglaries reported overnight in Riverhead

Update, 5 p.m.: Riverhead Town police are investigating two commercial burglaries that occurred overnight, though police would not say whether they were related.

My Guy Auto Supply at 1556 W. Main St. in Riverhead was burglarized and $319 worth of merchandise was taken, according to police at headquarters.

A glass door on the west side of the building was smashed, police said. According to police, a commercial burglar alarm was triggered at 11:01 p.m.

Riverhead police previously reported a generator was taken in a break-in at Malvese Equipment at 232 Old Country Road in Riverhead on Thursday just after 1 a.m. It was worth $510.

The K-9 unit searched the area, but no suspects were found.

Original Story, 10:01 a.m. Riverhead Town police said a generator was stolen from Malvese Equipment during a burglary in the early morning hours on Thursday.

Police responded to a commercial burglar alarm at 232 Old Country Road in Riverhead at about 1:05 a.m. Officers found the glass front doors at Malvese Equipment shattered. Police said a burglar or burglars had made it inside the building, but were already gone when they arrived.

A Riverhead police K9 unit searched the area, but came up empty.

Officers discovered a New Holland portable generator had been lifted from the power equipment distributor. Police did not specify its value.
