Riverhead man charged after stabbing, bat attack at 7-Eleven

A Riverhead man stabbed another man in the knee and smashed his car window with a baseball bat during a heated dust-up at the 7-Eleven on Old Country Road on Monday morning, police said.

Marcus Belcher, 34, approached officers around 9:30 a.m. near Doctor’s Path and Ellen Street as they investigated an unrelated complaint and told them he had just stabbed someone at the 7-Eleven at 162 Old Country Road, according to Riverhead police.

As the unidentified victim tried to drive away, he struck Belcher’s vehicle, which police said was blocking his path, damaging both vehicles.

The bloodied driver refused medical treatment, police said.

Mr. Belcher was charged with second-degree assault and third-degree criminal mischief.
