New grass field ready at Riverhead’s Stotzky Park

The new multi-purpose grass field at Stotzky Park was gleaming Saturday morning and ready to host its first live-game action since the field was built over the summer.

Police Athletic League soccer teams were scheduled to be the first to make use of the field, which is only open to youth leagues, about 10 a.m.

The older field at the park is still open to community use. The new field replaces one that was badly worn from years of overuse.

The contract to build the field was awarded to Bimasco Inc. of Hauppauge, which bid $339,996. The job was paid for using money from the town’s parks and recreation fund, officials have said. Developers pay into the fund when they subdivide land.
