Photos: Kait’s Angels unveils ‘Buddy Bench’ at Riley Elementary School
Members of Kait’s Angels unveiled another “Buddy Bench” within Riverhead Town, this time at Riley Avenue Elementary School in a ceremony including hundreds of students.
Created in memory of 2012 Mattituck High School graduate Kaitlyn Doorhy, the nonprofit organization established last year donated a “Buddy Bench” in her honor.
Kait’s Angels is in the process of donating Buddy Benches to several local schools in the area. Last November, the organization installed one at Cutchogue East Elementary School, and one month ago, Aquebogue Elementary School also received one.
Joe and Darla Doorhy, Kaitlyn’s parents, were present at Friday’s ceremony, where students sang and spoke about the friendship that the bench would encourage. It will be placed on the kindergarten playground, where any student who wishes to make a friend can sit and wait for someone else to join him or her.
