Baseball: Riverhead all-stars win District 36 championship
Talk about a dramatic finish.
Trailing by two runs for most of the game Monday night, the Riverhead Little League all-star team overcame East Hampton in the District 36 championship game thanks to some late-inning heroics. KJ Duff hit a three-run home run over the center field fence at Stotzky Park in the bottom of the sixth inning to lift the 9- and 10-year-old all-star team to the title. Riverhead won the game 3-2.
The all-star team is now 6-0 in the World Series. Riverhead went 4-0 in pool play, then defeated Longwood on Saturday to advance into Monday’s championship game.
