After scoring an overtime, game-winning goal Saturday to lead the Hofstra men’s lacrosse team past sixth-ranked Cornell, Shoreham-Wading River graduate Mike Malave was named the Colonial Athletic Association’s co-Player of the Week Monday.

Malave, a junior midfielder for Hofstra and a Wading River native, tallied six goals in the week to lead the Pride to a pair of victories. He shared the award with Penn State goalie Austin Kaut.

Malave tallied a hat trick against Cornell and scored the game-winning goal 44 seconds into overtime as the Pride improved to 9-3 this season and 8-1 at James M. Shuart Stadium. Hofstra, the 16th ranked team, defeated Cornell 10-9 for its fifth consecutive victory. Malave scored two man-up goals in the second quarter against Cornell. He now has a career high 17 goals this season and 4 assists. His 21 points are tied for fourth most on the team.

Earlier in the week Malave scored 3 goals with an assist in a 15-10 win over Marist.

As a senior at Shoreham in 2011, Malave was an all-county player who scored 27 goals with 17 assists to help lead the Wildcats to a county title. Malave also played basketball, winter track and golf during his high school career.
