An 87-year-old woman accidentally hit the gas and crashed her minivan through a home on Cottage Road in Baiting Hollow Tuesday night, Riverhead Town police said.

The woman suffered a head injury and was transported by Riverhead Ambulance volunteers to Stony Brook University Hospital, police said. The injury did not appear to be life threatening, police said. No one was inside the home at the time of the crash, police said. The accident occurred shortly before 6:30 p.m.

The woman was driving south on Neptune Place. A neighbor said the woman lives on Neptune Place two houses down from where she crashed.

The summer cottages are part of Woodcliff Park.

Jet Towing arrived on scene shortly after 7:30 p.m. to begin removing the vehicle from the house. The Riverhead Fire Marshal was on scene investigating.
